The exhaust of combustion engines contains a number of pollutants that are hazardous to health and contribute to the damage to the environment, such as:

· Fine dust: the fine dust spreads in the air and is inhaled by people. Larger particles fall relatively quickly to the earth, but especially the microfine particles, go into the lungs and sometimes remain there. This is the cause of many cancer cases.
· NOx: the nitrogen oxides are inhaled and form acids in contact with moisture (e.g., in the throat) and thus irritates and and are poisonous.
· PH value: non neutral PH values of the emissions also have harmful effects.

The exhaust gas situation for diesel vehicles is currently being discussed very intensively all across the EU, particularly in Germany, to the extent that there is a real risk of completely prohibiting diesel vehicles in city traffic. Should that happen it would be very attractive for the owners of diesel cars to have a solution in the market able to put their car emissions into the permitted limits, converting thus their vehicles and avoiding any bans or driving restrictions.

The automotive industry is currently working on the solution to reduce some of the harmful elements of the emissions. NOx values, for instance, are tackled by spraying ammonia into the exhaust gas, a technology that faces important challenges: the exact amount of ammonia shall be sprayed according to the actual power of the engine, otherwise it is also necessary to neutralize the outgoing harmful ammonia. This makes the current solution for NOx reduction difficult and expensive. The retention of fine dust (particles ranging from 0.1 to 15 microns) remains unsolved. Microparticles can technically be filtered, but associated with considerable engineering difficulties. Neutralization of PH levels is so far an unattended problem.

With the aim of offering a solution for diesel car owners before possible legal traffic restrictions, a German inventor located in Spain has developed a system that reduces dramatically the emission of fine dust and microparticles of diesel engine combustion, which also reduces the levels of NOx and helps to regulate the pH levels of the emissions. The system is based on the principle that adhesion occurs when mass (e.g., fine dust) comes in contact with a liquid. This means that the wetted particles remain in the liquid and will no longer return to the gas. The NOx in the exhaust forms nitric acid in contact with liquid, the liquid in the system is treated to raise the pH of the final emissions.

The technology consists of an additional aggregate which can be retrofitted into used and new vehicles, which is suitable for both, diesel and gasoline cars. The installation of the system in the car is very easy, it can be performed at any regular garage: the last muffler (rear silencer) is replaced with a cleaning tank. This is connected with a pipe or hose to the pump on the lid of the swap container. The lid of the swap body is placed in a convenient location, probably in the trunk.

Tests have been conducted to investigate the efficiency of liquids in retaining dust particles from exhaust gas. The results of the amount of dust catch by water-based simple test are shown in figure 4.

The inventor offers the technology mainly to motor vehicle (cars, vans, trucks, buses, etc.) spare parts manufacturers, under patent acquisitioning or licensing. The technology can be applied to any engine powered by diesel or gasoline combustion (diesel locomotives, ships, industrial equipment, etc.), so the inventor is also open to negotiate with potential licensees coming from other sectors than motor vehicles, i.e. railway, maritime, industrial, etc.

Technical cooperation for further develpments is negotiable.
