The Spanish bio-technological SME is developing methodologies, techniques and know-how in crystal engineering, which can be translated into various applications. The company is offering its expertise for technical cooperation on adaptation of the technology to specific needs to the client, or commercial agreement with technical assistance in engineering and technical consultancy regarding the technology offered.

The company designs and performs experimental screenings in order to find new polymorphs, salts and co-crystals of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) by combining the newest technologies and facilities in the field, together with an innovative virtual prediction methodology.

The team is composed by scientists from the University of Cambridge and the University of Barcelona (UK / Spain) with a large experience in areas such as crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry obtained through academic research projects and collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry. Its work is always carried out in close collaboration with the client´s researchers, adapted to the customer´s needs and under strict confidentiality conditions.

Co-crystals of APIs represent a class of multi-component crystalline forms that are of interest for their advantageous physical properties, for intellectual property implications, because they significantly diversify the number of crystal forms that exist for APIs and because they can be an alternative where salt formation is not possible.

The novelty and exclusiveness of the methodology is based on a computational predictive tool to predict the probability of co-crystal formation and limiting the number of candidate co-formers to be studied experimentally. This enables us to find new co-crystals with a higher success rate and reducing the cost of a conventional and comprehensive co-crystal search.

Applications of the technology:

· Virtual and experimental co-crystal screening. Co-crystal screening studies to discover new API multicomponent crystal forms. It combines the state-of-the-art experimental techniques with the most innovative prediction technology to discover new co-crystals with the highest efficiency. Their computational methodology has been rigorously tested and recognized by the scientific community.

· Polymorph and salt screening. Design comprehensive polymorph and salt screenings based on rational design strategies.

· Characterization of new API solid forms, by using the most advanced instrumental techniques we provide complete characterization of all the new discovered crystal forms. This includes powder and single crystal x-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, thermomicroscopy and IR/Raman spectroscopy.

· Stability of API solid forms. Thermal stability studies under different humidity conditions are conducted with all new crystal forms. In addition, solid-solid transformations and monotropy/enantiotropy relationships are investigated when necessary.


· Scale-up of new polymorphs and co-crystals. Scale-up the most suitable candidate in order to supply significant amounts of it to our customer for pre-formulation studies.

· Solid state consulting and patents search

· Process development and supply of preclinical batches
