Una universidad alemana ha desarrollado una trampa que ahuyenta insectos rastreros mediante electricidad y sin utilizar sustancias tóxicas, de forma que se evita la contaminación del entorno y no afecta a otras especies. Esta trampa está especialmente indicada para aplicaciones en las que debe evitarse la contaminación de alimentos, como cocinas, pastelerías e incluso huertos (en este caso se instala en árboles y funciona gracias a una célula solar orgánica). La trampa es fácil de instalar, no necesita mantenimiento y tiene unos costes bajos de producción. La universidad busca licenciatarios industriales.

Summary:
A German university has developed a trap that fends off crawling insects via electricity without toxic substances. It is thus especially suited for applications where food may not be contaminated, e.g. kitchens, bakeries, orchards. It can be produced at low costs and is easy to install. Industrial licensees are sought.
Description:
Insect control is especially challenging when crawling insects are concerned. In spite of toxic bait or other traps it is today hardly possible to keep crawling insects, such as aunts or cockroaches, away from canteen kitchens, cellars or bakeries effectively and in the long term.

A German university developed a new trap for crawling insect control. It is based on electricity instead of chemicals, so that the surroundings will not be contaminated and other species will not be endangered. The trap is effective in controlling the insects on their travel paths. For optimum impact it can be installed in doorways, in front of skirting boards, in shutter housings or air intake openings. The shape of the trap is adjusted to the respective task. It is easy to install and maintenance-free. The number of insects fended off can be recorded. An alarm function is available.
The trap is non-hazardous to human-beings.

The trap can be used for all types of crawling insects. It is especially suitable for use in kitchens and bakeries as it is non-toxic and thus does not contaminate the food. Further applications are even outdoors, such as in orchards, where the trap can be installed on a tree or a wood frame and be operated via an organic solar cell. In this application the alarm function could warn if there is termite infestation.

A print technology production process renders possible to produce low-cost traps. The solar cell can be printed together with the trap.

Industrial partners are sought for licensing. A prototype is available. Further joint development could include dimensioning of the trap, tests regarding the electricity requirements as well as practical tests.
