Several medical conditions, from osteoarthritis to neurological conditions, affect the way people move. In addition to this, movement can be adversely affected by injuries and even everyday stresses on the body such as those resulting from sitting for prolonged periods. The study of movement is therefore an important part of many fields from medicine to physiotherapy and sports science. It is also important for the development of products in these fields. There is therefore a need for the measurement and analysis of all aspects of movement which requires specialised equipment and expertise.

A UK-based university has a movement analysis laboratory that can provide measurements for the varying aspects of movement from motion capture, isokinetic testing, pressure measurement, electrical activity associated with muscle activation (electromyography) and thermal imaging. They also have advanced data processing capabilities enabling the collection, analysis and secure back-up of data generated.

The UK-based university is offering the facilities of the movement analysis laboratory to companies working in the medical, sports medicine and rehabilitation fields or those working on products where the effect on human movement is an important factor. As well as access to state of the art equipment these companies will also have access to the expertise of the laboratory´s technical and academic staff. The university will use these collaborations to further develop their capabilities and offerings in these spaces.

It is expected that these partnerships will take the form of commercial agreements with technical assistance or technical cooperation agreements but research cooperation agreements in relation to project proposals to funding bodies will be considered where appropriate.
