The technology can be applied to any screen application including 3D TV, games consoles, mobile phones, dashboard displays etc. and offers a more intuitive, immersive and engaging experience. The university seeks partners for a licensing or technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
This UK university has improved on the existing technology for manipulating virtual 3D images that offers users a much more immersive and interactive experience.
The user hand/finger position is established through the use of a positional tracker or other types of touch less technologies (e.g. electrical/capacitive field sensors in the case of smart phones). The coherent touch less interface uses sensors to pick up on hand movements and subsequently move the 3D visualisation by touching the displayed 3D object. The device´s visual display needs to be capable of showing stereoscopic 3D images made possible through a variety of techniques. Depending on the specific technology, budget and application, the user may need to wear goggles. The device processor will be used to display the images which enables the technology to be applied in multiple high and low cost applications.

Applications include: Computer games, mobile devices and PC applications, 3D TV settings and content interaction, visual interfaces for medical and biomedical applications, space technology, military operations, automotive and aircraft applications.

There is strong potential to apply the technology to a wide range of existing technologies including:

Manipulation of medical devices

E-commerce applications
Mobile applications
