La metodología desarrollada pretende mejorar el cultivo de la vid teniendo en cuenta factores físicos, biológicos y químicos, como condiciones climáticas o requisitos nutricionales específicos. La principal novedad es la aplicación de nuevas tecnologías de cultivo de la vid para monitorizar variaciones en la productividad. Description:
A Spanish research group specialized in plant physiology has developed a new procedure for the integral vineyard management. Their research activities are focused on plant responses to water stress, biology of plants under Mediterranean conditions and developing the potential of biotechnology and agronomy applications in the field of viticulture and oenology. The group aims to contribute to a more profound knowledge in this research field with the maximum competitiveness and scientific excellence. Furthermore, the research group, as an expert in that field, is also a member of the Spanish technology platform for plant biotechnology (BIOVEGEN) and the Spanish wine technology platform (PTV).

The methodology developed aims to improve the vineyard cultivation taking into account physical, biological and chemical factors such as climatic conditions or specific nutritional requirements. The integral management of vineyard includes pruning advice, disease treatment, irrigation management, chemical analyses, etc. The main activity is thought, optimizing water use to increase quality and productivity of grapes applying innovative technologies such as drones or infrared thermography techniques. Another application of these technologies is to provide information necessary for controlling crop growth and development. In addition, the group has expertise in the development of field experiments at specific conditions to assess new procedures for wine production at a small-scale.

The research group is looking for companies related to wine industry and interested in implementing this new methodology. The types of collaboration offered are research cooperation agreement or services agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
This new methodology covers the entire wine production process, from the vine cultivation to the wine elaboration. A global understanding of ecophysiology of plants and their nutritional and water requirements helps to manage vineyards more efficiently.

The researchers have successfully used drones and infrared thermography among other advanced technologies for monitoring growth and development in real time. These technologies allow expanding the monitoring potential from individually selected leaves to several hectares of vineyard and provide valuable feedback on irrigation, safety and other crucial parameters in plants framing.
