A team of researchers from an Italian University operating in the field of biochemical engineering is looking for an industrial partner producing biomedical products for license agreement. The technology offered relates to an innovative preparation of an aqueous solution, which brings advantages such as the ease of extraction of the bandage from the package, beneficial effects on tissue regeneration, hydrogels more deformable and resistant to failure and less vulnerable to the attack of molds.

Hydrogel-based medical devices have many advantages compared to traditional bandages, evident especially in increasing the healing time of difficult wounds (decubitus wounds, ulcerations, burns, etc).
The present invention of the biochemical engineering team of researchers of an Italian University eliminates the drawbacks related to the existing technologies, increasing the effectiveness of the new bandage in tissue repair processes thanks to the presence of calcium ions and expresses a greater resistance to deformation than the products available on the market. It also strongly reduces the formation of molds during production. Finally, the use of the new product makes easier the handling of patients with difficult wounds.
On the market, at present, there are two main technologies for obtaining such medical devices: PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) hydrogel crosslinked by irradiation, and crosslinked calcium alginate hydrogel by replacing sodium ions with calcium.
In the first case, you get a device that has the disadvantage of a strong adhesion between the Hydrogel and the final package. This is due to the production process. This means that, for the extraction at the time of the application to the wound, you should exercise extreme delicacy to avoid damage and compromising its functionality.
Hydrogel bandages produced using the second method, have the defect of the impossibility to sterilize the bandage using the radiation because the components necessary for the production (agar and calcium alginate), degrade with radiation. The hydrogel bandage must be produced with sterile raw materials and in a clean room.
The proposed device solves both issues and offers additional advantages, as described in the following field.
The Hydrogel is offered for license agreement to potential partners such as SMEs and MNEs operating in the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields.
