Un grupo de investigación de un hospital español ha desarrollado una válvula para evitar la pérdida de sangre que se adapta a cualquier tubo intravenoso mediante el uso de un catéter para que, además de administrar sueroterapia, pueda extraerse y analizarse la sangre en mejores condiciones que las actuales. Se buscan empresas especializadas en fabricar productos sanitarios desechables y productos de plástico para hospitales interesados en incorporar esta nueva válvula en su catálogo de productos. El objetivo es establecer acuerdos de licencia.


Dual anti-blood loss valve for administration of serotherapy and extraction of blood for analysis
A research group from a Spanish hospital has developed an anti-blood loss valve fitted in any intravenous tubing using a catheter so that, in addition to administering serotherapy, blood can be extracted for analysis in better conditions that at present. They are looking for companies working on production of throwaway sanitary items and plastic products for license agreement.

At present, when a hospitalized patient has a catheter and needs a blood extraction for analysis, a new puncture has to be done.

This causes time losses and inconvenience for the patient and the medical stuff. None valve at present seems to be able to perform the two functions. On one hand, to administer the serotherapy. On the other hand, to extract blood without discarding any.

One of the biomedical groups of one of Madrid´s hospitals, to which a total of 826 researches belong to, has patented an anti-blood loss valve fitted in an intravenous tubing using a catheter. In addition, to administering serotherapy, blood can be extracted for analysis in better conditions than at present.

The Health research Institute is intended to address among other sectors evaluation of healthcare technology and services. They are looking for companies working on medical devices for license agreement. The type of company could be a production and assembly of medical plastic products for hospitals that want to add this new valve to their product offer.

Advantages and Innovations:
The appliance improves the procedure for extracting blood so that when a patient needs an analysis, in order to avoid a direct puncture, the catheter installed to extract the blood for analysis can be employing by using one of the tubes available. The serotherapy treatment flowing through the catheter included ions, glucose and medication so that if it is necessary to take blood from the catheter to avoid giving the patient an injection, a certain amount of blood must be discarded so as not to alter the analytical results of the blood extracted, it is thrown away and cannot be recovered for the patient.

The invention is able to secure a point of extraction, each time creating a closed system which avoids infection, complying with the bacteraemia 0, standard and the blood discarded in order to extract blood for analysis is reinfused to the patient, who does not therefore suffer iatrogenic anaemia.
