Los sensores infrarrojos se utilizan como detector de presencia en sistemas de seguridad o equipos de calefacción, ventilación y aire acondicionado (HVAC), como sensor de temperatura para determinar el número y posición de individuos y para ayudar a las personas en sistemas de vida cotidiana asistida por el entorno (AAL) en hospitales. Los sensores reducen los costes de producción compatibles con procesos CMOS a la vez que permiten obtener un alto rendimiento. Se buscan socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de comercialización, licencia, joint venture, fabricación, investigación y cooperación técnica.

Summary:
A Korean research institute is offering expertise knowledge in smart home and building/office based on uncooled infrared ray(IR) sensor. The institute is focusing on developing and spreading nano technologies. The institute is looking for partners for commercial, license, joint venture, manufacturing agreement or research, technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
A Korean institute was founded in May 2004 as an adjunct institute in South Korea. The institute provides a national research environment with a state-of-art cleanroom, new materials and analysis Labs. The cleanroom promotes synergy among converging technologies by facilitating Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor(CMOS) and Micro Electro Mechanical System(MEMS) lines together, for example, monolithic MEMS sensor integration on CMOS Read-Out Integrated Circuit (ROIC). The representative technologies are now a standard 180nm Bulk CMOS, 180nm SOI RF CMOS and IR MEMS on ROIC wafers.

The platform and its representative technologies established in department of process and characterization based on clean room are:
1) Proto-types made on Si wafer are major products based on standard 180nm CMOS and SOI RF technology. The efficient and cost effective products are infrared sensors because sensors are arrayed on the standard CMOS readout IC circuits, which is called a monolithically integrated products.
2) All the types of diodes and related products are available in our diode technology. Discrete types of Bi-CMOS are available but the institute is not ready for PDK and analog PDK.
3) Opto-electronic sensor, optical devices, and integrated optical devices are good products in our fab because of parameters and properties are well developed.

Moreover, cost effectiveness infrared sensors have been prepared with MEMS process on CMOS wafers. Therefore, IR products can be easily given by a proper combination of IR sensor on these two CMOS platforms depending on the products specifications, with some strong partners who have their own circuit designs and system designs

The institute is able to offer the partners to integrate monolithically micorbolometer arrays and MEMS integrations onto a CMOS wafers. This process would allow smaller form factors and processing technologies with fewer steps. This is where the institute´s patented technology makes a great contribution. The fabrication method reduces the number of process steps, and mask layers to around 50%. This decrease in mask layers has a direct impact on the fabrication cost without sacrificing performance.

SMEs and R-Y-D institutions interested in adopting the technology under commercial, license, joint venture, manufacturing agreement or research, technical cooperation agreements are sought.
Advantages and Innovations:
- IR sensor could be used as a presence device in security systems or in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, temperature sensor to determine the number and positioning of the people, and to assist the people in Ambient Assisted Leaving (AAL) systems at hospitals, which can be remotely accessed for user convenience.
- Will reduce the production cost compatible with CMOS process, while continuing to achieve high performance
