Search for Novel Rodenticides
Summary:
An Italian SME is looking for new solutions for rodenticide products in alternative to currently used anticoagulant technology. More specifically the SME is interested in identifying new substances to kill rodents. The search is for solutions already identified or under development, through licensing or commercial agreements with technical assistance, as well as for potential partnership/collaboration for the development of a new rodenticide based on alternative technology to anti-coagulants.
Description:
The Italian SME operates in the rodenticide market. It is looking for new solutions for rodenticide products in alternative to currently used anticoagulant technology. Anti-coagulant substances are currently the most used actives in rodenticides. However, growing concerns for the long-term viability of these substances make the search for new and improved actives a matter of high priority. Any novel rodenticide solution with a lower environmental impact and less risky for non-target animals, would have significant global benefits. The SME is looking for solutions already identified or under development to be tested and to be introduced in its products. Such collaboration could be established through licensing or commercial agreements with technical assistance, as well as potential technical commercial partnership/collaboration for the development of a completely new rodenticide based on a low-risk substance.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
The SME is looking for methods or technologies to be used in rodenticide products in alternative to currently used anticoagulant techonology.

- High efficacy (90% mortality in laboratory and field test) to fight rodents (mice and rats);
- Low human hazard;
- No PBT (Persistent-Bio-accumulative, Toxic);
- Stable in baits for 2 years (if the solution is used in rodenticide baits);
- Economical (acceptable price for users);
Optional requirements are:
- Palatable (if the solution is used in rodenticide baits);
- Species specificity for mice and rats (safe for pets);
- Painless/humane;
- No capacity to develop resistance in target species;
- Fast-acting (effective in a few days);
- Antidote available for no target species;

What the SME is NOT looking for:
- Rodenticide solutions based on anticoagulant substances or potentially persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT).
- Solutions based on toxic substances such as: strychnine, zinc phosphide, aluminium phosphide, scilliroside, arsenic derivatives, phosphorus derivatives

Partner sought

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
Partner sought could be an enterprise or a researcher.
