Este producto está disponible en el mercado y se ha desarrollado para evitar la posible ingesta de alimentos en mal estado (carne, aves o pescado) mediante la detección de las concentraciones de compuestos orgánicos volátiles (COV) emitidos después de la descomposición de los alimentos. La empresa busca proveedores o fabricantes de sensores de tipo MOS (semiconductores de óxido metal) y MEMS (microelectromecánicos) para mejorar el producto y establecer acuerdos de fabricación o cooperación técnica.


MOS or MEMS sensors required for improvement of a commercial electronic odour sensing device
A Lithuanian SME that has developed and commercialized a handheld electronic odour sensing device (electronic nose) is looking for suppliers or manufacturers of metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) microelectromechanical (MEMS) sensors for improvement of their product. The type of partnership sought could be a manufacturing agreement or technical cooperation.
This Lithuanian company is dedicated to creating innovative products and solutions for the food and agricultural sectors and has a team with more than 5 years of experience in new product development business.

The product that they have currently developed - electronic nose - is already on the market and is intended to prevent its user from possible ingestion of spoiled food products - meat, poultry or fish - by detecting the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are emitted upon their decomposition. The detection of VOCs can be achieved by employing metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS), microelectromechanical (MEMS) or other biosensors. However, there are certain issues that are faced by using MOS sensors that are currently available to the company:
- Very big cross-sensitivity of different VOCs, resulting in a decreased accuracy;
- The response of the sensor that is used currently is not selective to carboxylic acid, which is the main detection target of the decomposition VOCs that are emitted;
- Relatively high MOS sensor price results in an expensive, thus less widely available, end-product;
- Long device calibration time when powering the device after it´s been switched off for more than 6 - 8 hours.

The partners should be manufacturers or suppliers of MOS or MEMS sensors that are able to address these issues, resulting in an improved end-product. This would lead to a manufacturing or technical cooperation agreement.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
New MOS or MEMS sensors, required by the company, should exhibit these properties:
- High selectivity to specific VOCs (namely carboxylic acid, amino acids and etc.), which should also be adjustable by the company´s programmers (if that´s not possible, then the manufacturer should be able to adjust the selectivity according the needs of our client);
- Improved response rate;
- Life cycle of 10,000 samplings minimum;
- The price of the sensors should be 1.5 - per unit based on a batch of 5,000 - 10,000 units.
