Contract manufacturing sought for antimicrobial wound care patches with a unique hydrogel
Summary:
A Swedish SME developing medical devices to provide solutions to the global antibiotic resistance crisis is looking for a contract manufacturer for their antibacterial hydrogels into functional wound care patches. A lab-scale process and raw materials are available. The company is looking for partners interested in manufacturing agreement.
Description:
The Swedish company has developed a new antibacterial wound patch for wound care applications and are interested to produce their own wound care patches and eventually scale-up the technology. The patch consists of a proprietary antimicrobial hydrogel that rapidly and efficiently kills bacteria (incl. resistant bacteria) upon contact and is for local application. The patch does not contain any substances that will be released into the wound. The hydrogel is developed at the company´s site and today they have a functional prototype with lab-scale process parameters defined. The hydrogel is formed from a liquid precursor and solidified using light or heat.

The company is looking for partners interested in manufacturing agreement. In this respect, the company is interested in a partner who might be able to develop and convert the hydrogel all the way from a precursor into a finished patch with eg: support adhesive layers (eg: PU or silicone), sterilisation and packaging. The goal is to perform a first concept development of the finished patch processing followed by pilot scale verification of the production. Long-term goal is full scale manufacturing, eg: 2 million pieces per month.

Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
The company is looking for a partner with expertise in hydrogel based wound care manufacturing. Expertise sought in process development of hydrogel patches as per specifications. Raw materials and process parameters shall also be defined by the company.

Specifically, the company is interested (as a first product design) in an island of antimicrobial hydrogel placed on an underlying border dressing (PU, Silicone or other etc.) which is used to maintain on the peri-wound skin and support the hydrogel. The preferable design is that the hydrogel has maximum contact with the wound area (since it is contact killing and no release). Adhesion between hydrogel and border is preferred to be strong.

A mock-up product design is seen in the photo showing the Antimicrobial Peptides (AMP) hydrogen layer and the underlying outer layer.

-Thickness of island hydrogel is 1-2 mm
-Thickness of antimicrobial attachment (negligible as it will be a monolayer on the hydrogel)
-Size of final product can be as per standard product size on market (5x5 sq cm or 10x10 sq cm including border layer)

Partner sought

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
The ideal partner is a contract manufacturing organisation with experience in manufacturing wound care products and specific expertise in handling hydrogels and the conversion of the same into functional wound care patches. Role of partner is as a service partner with a fee-for-service model.
