Description:
Cold gas sprayed nanostructured composite coatings for tribological applications in medical implants have been developed in the FP7 - program. These coatings can be produced at pilot scale on flat surfaces. However, cold gas sprayed coatings deposition on curved surfaces is not yet quality assured. This company's wish: to use newly developed coatings on medical implants, for the implementation of nanocomposite coatings in the medical sector. The aim; to optimise processes and coatings by fast and efficient screening on coating life expectancy and investigate real life production costs.They also would like to increase the technology readiness level from pilot scale to mature.

The Ti- TiC nanocomposite cold air sprayed coatings for biomedical applications are a new class of nanostructured Ti-based coatings with improved performances on osseointegration (due to the nanostructure), biocompatibility and high wear resistance. The coatings are porosity free and biocompatible. The tribological properties are superior to other implant systems.
