Details

Tittle:
Photodiode detectors in the range 2.5 µm to 5.5 µm
Summary:
A UK manufacturer of high precision gas measurement and analysis equipment is hoping to source technology/products/partners in the area of photodiode detectors for operation in the range 2.5 µm to 5.5 µm (can be wider) for various instrumentation applications. Industry and academia are sought for technical co-operation, services or manufacturing agreement.
Description:
A UK manufacturer of high precision gas measurement and analysis equipment is working towards expanding their product offering in this field. For that purpose, they are looking for additional suppliers and technology developers.
Enabling technologies are being sort, that can allow photodiode detectors to operate in the infra-red spectral band between 2.5 µm - 5.5 µm (can be wider). Photodiode detectors are commonly used for gas analysis and the company wishes to expand their portfolio but there are specific requirements listed under Technical Specification. They wish to engage with appropriate partners, academic or industrial, enabling the introduction of improved performance products to the market. The type of collaboration will depend on the stage of development and will include technical co-operation, services or manufacturing agreement.
Technical co-operation - the company is keen to collaborate with partners performing research and development in the area of photodiode detectors and new materials, so that they can develop new products for their gas analysis applications.
Services or manufacturing agreement - the company is keen to identify and work with potential suppliers of appropriate photodiode detectors to be incorporated into new gas analysis products.
Interested parties are invited to provide a brief non-confidential description of the component or system that is ready or under development.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
Current detectors are based on materials such as InGaAs (Indium Gallium Arsenide) which operate up to 2.5µm. For longer molecular absorption wavelengths, detectors are needed between 2.5 µm and 5.5 µm. Whilst there are materials such as HgCdTe (MCT or Mercury Cadmium Teleride) that allow this enhanced performance, they are predominantly used for military and defence applications (and therefore export regulations make them unattractive for use).
Solutions may come from:
- Alternative materials, e.g. Indium Arsenide Antimonide (InAsSb) - varying the composition of the materials used or modifying the band structure.
It is the expectation that the detectivity of the detectors will be greater than pyro-electric detectors, and as such exhibit D* > 10 to the power of 9.

Partner sought

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
Type of partner sought: industry and academia.
- Specific area of activity of the partner: photodiodes. Their current field of work need not be in gas analysis.
- Task to be performed by the partner sought: industry and academia are invited to send non-confidential description of their solutions or components to meet the requirements, and their stage of development.
