UK skin health company seeks university with skin microbiome expertise for research project
Summary:
UK skin health company offering the first real natural facial wash, seeks university with whom to collaborate on skin microbiome project. The project aims at investigating the effect of different cosmetic products - synthetic, ´natural´ and the company´s own real natural product - on the skin by measuring skin microbiota of volunteers. The company is looking for a university for a research service agreement.
Description:
A British company has developed the first real natural facial wash products as a direct response to its concern about the huge increase in skin health disorders in the developed world. Its research found that this increase coincided with a major environmental change: the rise in use of synthetic chemical ingredients in everyday cosmetic products. Moreover the company found that this situation was not alleviated by the use of so-called ´natural´ products, virtually all actually contain potentially harmful synthetic chemical ingredients.

The company is looking for an academic research partner for a research project involving skin microbiota testing. The objectives of the project would be to:
1. Demonstrate how products containing synthetic chemical ingredients are altering the skin´s natural condition, in particular the skin microbiota.
2. Show how so-called ´natural´ cosmetics containing these similar synthetic ingredients alter the skin´s environment too.
3. Show how the company´s own facial wash re-creates the skin´s ´proper´ microbiota.

The project will involve measuring skin microbiota of volunteers over a given time and referencing studies on the skin microbiome. Identical twins would be the ideal subjects for the study.

The UK company is now seeking an academic research partner with skin microbiome expertise, who would be interested in this project proposal and willing to collaborate on carrying it out. The partner would need to have the necessary resources and equipment to carry out testing/sampling of human skin microbiota from a sample group of volunteers. Potentially this could be a university Biology/Microbiology department which is already working in a similar research area e.g. PhD student research or undergraduate student research project. Access to a sample group of students to participate in the study would be ideal. N.B. The company itself can arrange for identical twins to take part.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
The partner would need expertise in skin microbiome and the necessary resources and equipment to carry out testing/sampling of human skin microbiota from a sample group of volunteers.
