Exploring The Opportunity for Small Scale Biomethane Production Plants
Summary:
A Scottish utility wishes to explore the potential for small scale biomethane plants to be deployed on small, rural anaerobic digestion plants. If successful the technology could be deployed at rural treatment plants and could be used to provide a source of locally produced renewable fuel for road transport applications.

The company seeks a technical cooperation partner capable of providing the technology at this scale on an economic basis for design, installation and demonstration.
Description:
A Scottish utility wishes to explore the potential for small scale biomethane plants to be deployed on small, rural anaerobic digestion plants. There is the opportunity for a variety of waste streams to be used to create biomethane to be used as fuel.

It is recognised that rural/remote communities (such as the Highlands, Island and Borders areas in Scotland) suffer from higher fuel costs than those found in urban areas, and a successful project on this scale would demonstrate the opportunity to replicate this in a number of remote areas.

This project would also offer the opportunity to demonstrate the use of biomethane as a road transport fuel for possible roll out by Local Authorities/Municipalities and other public bodies for use in their vehicle fleets, thus meeting targets for Carbon footprint reduction (e.g. Scottish Government´s target to deliver 10% of transport powered from renewable sources by 2020).

The company seeks a technical cooperation partner capable of providing biomethane production plant technology at this scale on an economic basis for design, installation and demonstration.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
Key requirements are - biomethane production plants and refuelling station.

The technology deployed is likely to be either water scrubbing technology or pressure swing absorption technology, although other techniques are known to operate successfully.

The key consideration is for small scale applications.

Partner sought

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
The partner will be able to (or already have) designed Biomethane production plants and refuelling stations.

The technology used is likely to be either water scrubbing technology or pressure swing absorption technology although other techniques are known to operate successfully.

The key consideration is for small scale applications with the capacity to produce around 100m3 biogas per hour.

The technology provider will be able to design, install and demonstrate their equipment.

In return the Scottish utility will provide biogas for use in the equipment and fore-go the normal fee that would be applied to companies wishing to access their innovation testing facilities.
