Details

Tittle:
Dutch engineers are looking for partners to build smart freight train system
Summary:
A consortia of Dutch engineers, active in the design of railway security applications, have developed a proven concept to monitor the real-time condition of freight trains. The system will meet the new requirements based on the proposal of the Fourth Railway Package of the EU.
To further develop this concept the company is seeking partners within the framework of a research or technological cooperation agreement or a manufacturing agreement with technical support in Europe.
Description:
A consortia of innovative Dutch engineers wants to develop, produce and implement an on-board condition monitoring system for freight trains to meet requirements for increased reliability and attractiveness of rail transportation.
The continuous monitoring method will be an improvement with regard to the current fixed track side monitoring methods. The train driver will be provided with actual information for the safe movement of the train and track. Valuable real-time information will be sent to the online database for track side stakeholders, i.e. railway undertakings, infra managers, logistics operator, railway station and yard manager, asset owners, maintenance entities and emergency services.
The smart freight train system comprises of an on-board electronic system and a track side online information system. The system to be built covers a variety of technologies, i.e. sensors, micro controller, radio, power supply, information technology and processes. System integration and pilot testing will be performed in order to prove practical feasibility in the railway environment.
By implementing this system new working procedures will be introduced and stakeholders will be able to use the train information (progress, condition) in their own operational processes.
The Dutch consortium is interested in meeting new partners within the European railway and rail cargo industry for
- research cooperation : on electronic solutions based on new low energy solutions
- technical cooperation agreement : maintenance of technology for freight rolling stock
- manufacturing agreement: development, production and maintenance of technology for freight rolling stock.
Looking for a long term strategic partnership.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
The Dutch engineers consortium has expertise in many fields and expect close cooperation with its partner. The expertise sought is to convert the design and proven concept into a working modular product.
The expertise sought depends on the type of partner. Experience with deployment of applications for railway environment is essential.
Expertise sought should be in one or more of the following fields of expertise:
1. Electronic engineering of low energy applications; Radio technology, embedded systems, sensors
2. Development, production and maintenance of parts for freight cargo rolling stock
3. Information systems
4. Familiar with international railway standards in Europe that include Standard European Interoperable signalling and train control system (ERTMS/ETCS) and Track Ahead Free (TAF)

Partner sought

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
The Dutch engineers are interested in research cooperation with long term mutual knowledge transfer in order to create access to the railway market.
The partner sought is expected to have access to the rail market and shall be able to perform one or more of the following roles; research, system integrator, producer, supplier, provider of service and/or maintenance.
The partner sought will be active in at least one of following categories:
1. Research and development in production of electronic equipment based on new low energy technology. Products are applied in harsh environments (military, rail).
2. Asset owner of freight rolling stock (wagons and/or locomotives).
3. Development, production and maintenance of technology for freight rolling stock (wagons and/or locomotives).
