The inherent insulation properties of cushioning materials limit some potential new applications. Technologies of TRL (technology readiness level) 3 or higher are sought. The manufacturer is open to a wide variety of partnerships including joint development, technology licensing and purchasing agreements.
Description:
This international manufacturer - with a European headquarters in Austria - has significant experience and competence in the integration of technical systems and is one of the leading consumers of cushioning materials.

Cushioning material is a natural thermal insulator and as such cannot be used in a desired new application. The technology sought should improve the performance of the cushion and open up new market opportunities for this product. The manufacturer seeks techniques or methods to modify or supplement cushioning in such a way that is becomes more thermally conductive, while retaining its original feel. Polyurethane foam is commonly used as a cushioning material in the industry today, but such state of the art solutions do not fulfil the desired functions completely. Alternative cushioning materials or ways to modify polyurethane foams to make them more thermally conductive are sought.

The manufacturer is looking for solutions which are of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3 or above, i.e. solutions which have already passed the proof of concept. The company´s main focus is on finding a perfect match in terms of the technology. They are open to cooperating with partners in developing a suitable solution or in purchasing the licence for an existing solution. In addition, a financial agreement is also possible. If the technical fit is right, the company would also be willing to discuss other forms of cooperation. All kinds of partners will be considered.

· Overall size: 400mm x 400mm x 12mm
· Material with 40 - 120N force to deflect 50% of thickness using 100 mm diameter disk
· Final product isotropic coefficient of thermal conductivity: K > 50 W/m*K
· Flexibility similar to carpeting of the same thickness
· The cost target is < $10 / square meter at an annual volume of 1,000,000 pieces.
· TRL level of 3 or higher - the concept must have some scientific backing that the approach would be effective.
