Within the UK alone 16% of electricity generated is consumed by refrigeration. Worldwide power consumption for air conditioning is forecast to increase 33 times by 2100 and is estimated that by 2050, people will use more energy for cooling than for heating.

The system developed by the UK company is estimated to reduce net electrical demand by between 25-40% by capturing and recovering energy directly from refrigeration or air-conditioning devices. The principle of the system can be applied to all current and emerging refrigerants and is complimentary with other forms of thermal energy recovery.

The technology requires the integration of two components into vapour compression cycles: a pump module with integrated control card and expander machinery.

They are seeking industrial partners working with refrigeration or air-conditioning or energy recovery systems via manufacturing and/or technical cooperation agreements to co-develop and/or manufacture the innovation.

* Various expander geometry scrolls, screws, rotary vanes, turbines, or reciprocating pistons.

* Various expander geometry to various drive train/shaft combinations, for example, turbo to turbo. This is very similar to internal combustion engine turbo chargers, facilitating turbo compression.

* Other drive train/shaft combinations to supplement the refrigeration system capacity. This may include supercharging the primary compressor to supplement the system compressor capacity.
