The aim of the research is to develop and validate an improved numerical model for the simulation of the near wake occurring downstream a wing, the near wake breakdown and the formation of the two counter rotating vortices. The partners sought are innovative SMEs and R-Y-D performers in the field of Space and Aerospace for technical cooperation in EU/Intern. R-Y-D Programs.
Description:
The terms "wake turbulence" and/or "wake vortex/vortices" describe the "effect of two rotating air masses generated behind the wing tips of aircrafts" (ICAO DOC 9426). The wake turbulence is a by product of lift and thus it is associated to every aircraft in flight.
The partners sought are innovative SMEs and R-Y-D performers in the field of Space and Aerospace applications in EU/International R-Y-D Programs.

Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The strongest vortices are produced by aircrafts flying slowly with flaps extended (ICAO DOC 4444). Further, the strength of the vortices diminishes with distance (and time) behind the generating aircraft. These vortices are hazardous to the following aircrafts mainly during take-off, final approach and landing

Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
The aim of the research is first to develop and validate an improved numerical model for the simulation of the near wake occurring downstream a wing, the near wake breakdown and the formation of the two counter rotating vortices. Next, based on the results of the numerical simulations a simplified mathematical model of the far wake is developed and validated for the use for Air Traffic Management and for air traffic optimization purposes.
