A UK based ultrasound training simulator manufacturer seeks collaboration with partners to improve its existing simulations and to create new medical simulations for their market leading product.

The company is seeking collaboration with providers or developers of new simulation or visualization technologies and with professionals skilled in the use of existing simulation technologies.

The aim of the project is to improve and enhance the current simulation images and to make the products simulations more life-like and reactive. The company is open to explore any ways in which this can be achieved.

The company feels one path of development would be to create deformation of 3D images linked to haptic technology.
Haptic technology is already used in the company´s products, but the company wishes to make the images of organs or 3D simulations of organs more realistic by deforming them according to the haptic inputs.

Proportional deformation of the image according to haptic input would greatly improve the simulation. It would replicate the dynamic action on the body during a scan. By deforming the image in a predictable way it may be possible to simulate a medical clinician pressing or rolling over the surface of the human organ and compressing it.

For many scans the clinician may apply force to move around organs obscuring view. Therefore, deformation of the shape or surface, of organ images would be a valuable advancement in this field of diagnostic medicine training simulators.

The company can be flexible in the commercial basis by which it can introduce such technologies into its business. Possibilities include purchase of licences for the commercial exploitation of technology(s) which could be restricted to medical training applications only; a Joint Venture will be considered where appropriate; research or technical cooperation agreements are also possible where a suitable apportionment of the ownership and commercial exploitation rights of any IP created can be negotiated.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
The new technology partner may be an Inventor, Developer, Licensee or Manufacturer of ´new´ technology or of software engines that can be used to improve existing images, or create a solution to the ´deforming of images´ task.

The partner sought with skills to create a solution utilising ´existing´ technology may be a Computer Science Specialist, University Department, Modelling Specialists, Software Company, Gaming Company, Graphics Design Specialist or those professionals involved in image rendering or 3D and 4D visualization.

Adherence to the OpenGL graphics standard may be required of any technology or approach adopted.
