Summary:
A Singapore authority is seeking solutions to have aircraft cabins cleaned within a short period of time, with the aim of minimising the duration the aircraft spends on the ground. The cleaning tasks include vacuum-cleaning of carpeted floors, removing stubborn stains on the seats and tray tables, removing soiled blankets and replacing magazines and newspapers.

The types of partnerships sought include:

Description:
The Singapore authority wants to overcome the challenges in cleaning aircraft cabins currently with manual means. One of which is the limited space in the aircraft cabins, with narrow aisles and spaces between rows of seats. This increases the difficulty for cleaners to make use of large equipment and those with cables.

In addition, the cleaners have to share the space with other teams working to prepare the aircraft for the next flight, including the cabin crew and inflight catering teams.

Solutions currently used to address the problem:

The solutions currently being adopted include the use of various portable vacuum cleaners, e.g. battery-operated vacuum cleaners and vacuum cleaners in a backpack form, but they were found to be unsuitable for various reasons.

Issues that surfaced during these trials include:
·Most equipment are not compatible with the power output in the aircraft of 115V/400Hz
·The life of battery-operated equipment is unable to support the length of the operations
·The equipment is too bulky and may damage the seats and/or inflight entertainment screens when cleaners are maneuvering in the cabin
·The equipment is too heavy for the more elderly staff to operate effectively

In seeking a suitable solution to address its aircraft cabin cleaning challenges, it is desired that the cost of each solution should not cost more than SGD $1,500.

The number of headcounts / man-hours saved on cleaning each aircraft and the time required to clean the aircraft interior would also be taken into consideration.
