Description:
Using plain stone for flooring is expensive to install due to the need to destroy the existing flooring and make a new screed. The new system allows to reduce the installation costs and time. This new free floating floor system can be easily dismantled for reparation and replacement.

A Belgian company has developed a fabrication process of ultra-thin tiles veneer made of natural stone with high impact resistance. The ultra-thin natural stone is glued to a cheap new backing material already commercialized but not yet used in this application. The resulting ultra-thin tile veneer has proven exceptional characteristics. The outstanding impact resistance combined with a high performing backing material allows to create a free-floating floor of tiles for public and residential areas that was unthinkable before, untapped markets are now within scope.

The product is currently at demonstration phase. The goal of the project will be to develop this innovative product until commercialization stage. That means to optimize the production process, develop the fixation system and to complete the product characterization for the flooring applications. They are looking for partners to apply for the next Eurostars-Eureka call.

They look for free-floating parquet manufacturer, SME or large company, with an ambition and the capability to innovate and willing to establish a research cooperation agreement. The consortium will be completed with the developer of the invention and a producer of the new natural stone veneer.

Due to the Eurostars requirements on country distribution, the partner should be located in the countries participants of the Eurostars-Eureka programme, except from Belgium. That is: Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and/or United Kingdom.

The deadline for the call is the 3rd September 2020.
The expressing of interest for participation is 30th June 2020.
The project will last between 2 and 3 years
Advantages and Innovations:
The main advantages of the ultra-thin natural stone veneer are the cheap and quick installation, the easiness to repair and the recyclability potential after use. The combination with an increased impact resistance makes this product unprecedented.

Other advantages are:
- fire resistance for many hours at 1000 degrees C
- water resistance long term
- heat conductive
- wave permeability (wifi, radio, mobiles)
- no ageing effect

The natural stone veneer shows a clean cut with a classical diamond saw. It can be clipped with notches at the back.

The tile is available in sizes up to 1000 x 1200mm with a total thickness from 14mm to 16mm.
