Croatian SME has developed a cloud (driver copilot) based software that connects car owners and their cars, with repair shops, insurance companies, road assistance service providers and social network, benefiting everyone involved.
The team consists of 9 people, experts in the fields of software development, telecommunications, and insurance industry. Founders of the company are serial entrepreneurs that were previously engaged in a project for one of the leading global car manufacturer. After this 2 years long project, and accumulated know-how and experience, the idea for Driver copilot was conceived and separate legal entity founded to tackle the connected car market space. Combination of the know-how gathered with their sister company specializes in the digital media marketing, and know-how gathered from the automotive field through this company, gives them a unique bland and position on the market needed for building a successful B2B2C proposition.


Driver Copilot platform contains several modules:
a) Data collection module
b) Data processing and advanced analytics module
c) Data reporting module

Each of these modules covers different aspect of data management in delivering the connected car solution.

Data collection module ensures the compatibility with different data sources, thus making the whole solution hardware agnostic. Data sources supported are aftermarket telematics devices collecting data from the vehicle, in-car telematics devices built-in during the car production process and finally smartphone application. This makes the Driver copilot solution flexible enough to support different market conditions and lifecycle phases.

Data processing and advanced analytics module aggregates, filters, cleanse and correlate the data coming from the connected cars. It also uses the rich map data as well as the weather data in order to get the full understanding of the driving and driving conditions (relevant for some road services and risk evaluation or insurance products).

Finally data reporting module reports the information to different stakeholders and user roles depending on their needs.

Driver copilot solution uses GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to determine exact location based information, GPRS connectivity for data transfer, OBD II (advanced On-board diagnostics) standard vehicle interface to extract vehicle specific data from the on board car computers, GIS (Geographic Information System) data such as specific map data and weather data collected and analyzed by dedicated weather service component developed by the company. Combination of the technologies used and the data collected makes the Driver copilot solution extremely robust but powerful and flexible at the same time.

1) Commercial agreement with technical assistance - a partner with technical capability to host the platform and provide it to their local market as a managed service.
2) Financial agreement - a partner that would provide capital required for market growth in exchange for company shares.

In this very young industry segment, none of the existing solutions addresses the ecosystem as such, but rather individual stakeholders and at best tries to connect only one business entity with the car owner. This software differentiates to the extent that it has created a solution where all key stakeholders can connect with each other but most importantly with the car owners and their cars.
Within the connected car ecosystem, big amount of data is generated through car connectivity and operations of the underlying workflows. Multiple benefits can be obtained by the interconnected business entities based on the collected data. Just some of them being improved efficiency and reduced operating cost, better insights on customer behavior and needs leading to more personalized products and lower churn, product differentiation leading to better acquisition, new communication channel established with the client leading to increased up-sell and cross-sell revenues, better risk prediction capability for insurance companies, etc.

Finally and most importantly, savings and benefits achieved by business entities are shared with the car owner that in turn makes it a viable business case for all, driving the faster product adoption.

It has been accumulated a lot of proprietary know-how. Through different client engagements, the company had an opportunity to develop its product based on data and information coming from more than 60.000 connected vehicles. These insights made the statistical models available on the Driver copilot platform very predictive and reliable. Insurance components have been developed in cooperation with actuary teams from some of the leading insurance companies in Europe, where the company retained the complete rights on Intellectual Property implemented in its software.
