Un instituto italiano ha desarrollado una tecnología de manipulación de componentes basada en un dispositivo de manipulación de vacío que utiliza el mismo sistema de actuación (bomba de vacío) para sujetar piezas y controlar un nuevo sistema mecánico que ayude a la liberación. La tecnología puede emplearse y adaptarse a diferentes industrias, desde envasado y sanidad hasta automoción. La tecnología eficaz, sencilla, ligera y fácil de usar se integra en sistemas para manipular microcomponentes de diferentes formas y materiales. El instituto busca socios con el fin de implementar la tecnología en estos sectores y establecer acuerdos de licencia.

Summary:
An Italian Institute has developed a technology for the manipulation of components based on a vacuum manipulation device, that uses the same actuating system (vacuum pump) for grasping the parts and controlling an innovative mechanical system to assist the release. The technology can be used and adapted for different industrial sectors, from packaging to healthcare to automotive, furthermore partners to implement it are required in these sectors. Licence agreements are preferred.
Description:
The technology, effective, simple, low-weight and easy to use integrated in a manipulation system, allows to manipulate micro-parts of different shape and material.
The mechanical system is inside the gripper body and can move between two main positions, one of which allows the grasping of the components by vacuum and the other forces and improves its release as soon as the pump is turned off.
The manipulation of millimetric and sub-millimetric components presents several issues, often negligible at the macro scale. Indeed, at the micro scale, the high surface to volume ratio leads to the predominance of the superficila forces (e.g. electrostatic, van der Waals, and capillary forces) over the gravitational force, therefore the manipulation of micro parts is very challenging, in particular the release is a critical phase of the manipulation. Components often stick to the gripper and, since the gravitational force does not overcome the adhesion, their release becomes uncertain and unreliable. In this context, an innovative vaccum micro gripping methiod and device able to cope with micro part release issues was conceived.
Advantages and Innovations:
The technology allows the precise, reliable and safe manipulation of micro parts, avoiding any considerable increase in weight nor excessive complication of the system. The technology can be easily mounted on a robot or integrated in a manual tele operated manipulation system. Its applications spread in several sectors including electronics, automotive, micro mechanics, packaging, telecommunications, medical and biomedical.
